In Memory of Dorris Holmes

Sister Dorris Holmes

Born in Florida, Sister Dorris Holmes moved to Michigan with her family at a young age.  She is the daughter of Mother Earline Holmes and the late Deacon king Solomon Holmes Sr.  Dorris attended Mt. Olive COGIC with  her family which is where she was schooled in her Christian faith.  Later, Dorris again accepted Christ and was born again.  As an active member of Abundant Harvest Church, she was a faithful servant of the Lord and dedicated her life to his service.  At Abundant Harvest Church she served on the Compassion Team and Praise Team. Dorris was also active with the District Women's Jail Ministry.  Dorris was blessed to serve in local ministry with her sons Eric and Larry (Erin) as well as her brother, King Solomon Holmes Jr and his wife, her sister-in-law Maria, during her membership at Abundant Harvest.  Dorris was so determined to walk with the Lord that she often attended other local ministry's prayer meetings as well.  Dorris was a beloved co-worker of many friends at the University of MI Hospital in the Cancer Department.  Our beloved sister lost her own battle with cancer and went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 30, 2009 at age 50. She will always be remembered for her faithfulness.

A Dorris Holmes Memorial Scholarship has been established by Abundant Harvest Church to honor her memory to encourage young women to further their education.  Members may apply for the scholarship (annual deadline is August 1).  See scholarships.
